Chapter 6 # 4
When Lee asks his soldiers what he should do in battle it shows Lee the responsibility and choice making of his soldiers. Then he could teach them what he would do and some of his tactical thinking so they someday might be like him

One of Lee's Quotes states "It is well that war is so terrible, we should grow too fond of it." This quote means that if war was sweet and innocent we would have the temptation to like it and start wars more often.

Lee did not take his subordinate's advice by attacking in the early morning fog to catch the Union off guard because he thought that a defensive position was much better, stronger, and would most likely have more casualties than an offensive possition.

Lee did not want to fight at Fredrickseberg because Lee knew it was a well known and historic town. In addition he knew that the town would fall apart and crumble under a federal invasion.

Lee is edumacating his officers with a means of talking to them about how the battle went so they could understand the enemies weaknesses and so his subordinants would understand his approach.

this quote shows that he does not like some things but will do them because they are his duty.

Lee discarded this sugestion by believing that when one has a defensive position he should keep it.

Lee felt that even though it was a small town it could not take a federal invasion. also it was a town full of history and that an invasion of Fredericksburg would not help the union militarily.

Lee is educating his officers because he's making them think instead of being told thier every move and so he could teach them his way of thinking so he could do like what he did with "stonewall" jackson and trust them enough to take a big chunck of the army and he could be at peace of mind knowing that they will do thier job well
